Illinois Dental Practice Installs First U.S. Sirona 3D X-Ray Imaging System

Evanston, Illinois dentist, Dr. Daniel Marinic, has installed Sirona Dental System's three-dimensional (3D) X-ray imaging system, GALILEOS, the first ever such system in a U.S. private practice.

Evanston, IL (PRWEB) February 7, 2007 –- Evanston, Illinois dentist, Dr. Daniel Marinic, has installed a new three-dimensional (3D) X-ray imaging system, GALILEOS made by Sirona Dental Systems, the first such system of its kind in a private practice in the United States.

Conventional images taken in most dental offices are two-dimensional. Cross-sectional, or 3-D, images make the placement of implants safer, more predictable and accurate. The Sirona system generates a three dimensional model of the patient's jaw on a computer screen and the surgery is performed virtually before the procedure even starts.

Sirona’s new technology extends diagnostic X-ray imaging potential in the fields of implantology, endodontics, periodontics, oral/maxillofacial surgery and orthodontics. The visualization tools available in the software enable practitioners to reduce risk in different treatments, plan surgical interventions, coordinate planning treatment with colleagues and explain treatments to patients with greater clarity and accuracy.

"It's very precise," Dr. Marinic said. "Conventional images taken in most dental offices are two-dimensional. Cross-sectional, or 3-D, images make the placement of implants safer, more predictable and accurate. The Sirona system generates a three dimensional model of the patient's jaw on a computer screen and the surgery is performed virtually before the procedure even starts."

Sirona 3D imaging with new Cone Beam technology goes beyond traditional diagnostics and treatment capabilities by calculating a large volume 3D image set, more than 200 exposures, in a single low-dose 3D scan of 15 seconds or less. GALILEOS not only shows 3D displays in perfect image quality, but also enables clear navigation and diagnosis in the traditional panoramic, cephalometric and cross-sectional displays.

The FDA granted 510K approval of Sirona's GALILEOS last summer and the system was demonstrated for the first time at the 2006 American Dental Association exhibition in Las Vegas in October.

Dr. Marinic has been in private practice in Evanston, IL since 1987. He has focused his practice on cosmetic, advanced restorative, and implant dentistry. Over the years, he has integrated technology into his practice to allow him to treat his patients using minimally invasive dentistry.
